Private Guided Metal Detecting Experience
Learn the fundamentals. Use quality equipment. Hunt for real targets.
Join Heritage Gold Rush for a private, hands-on introduction to the world of metal detecting.
Designed primarily for individuals with little or no previous detecting experience, this approximately 4-hour experience will teach you how to properly operate a modern metal detector, understand what it's telling you, recover targets responsibly, and develop the fundamental skills needed to confidently start detecting on your own.
You'll learn in the field—not in a classroom—and spend the majority of your experience actually searching for real targets.
Please contact Heritage Gold Rush before purchasing to confirm availability and discuss your lesson. Call or text Cody at 916-833-7178 or email cody@heritagegoldrush.com.
Learn to Metal Detect
Metal detecting involves much more than simply turning on a detector and swinging it over the ground.
We'll begin with the fundamentals of operating a modern metal detector before putting those concepts into practice in the field.
Instruction may include detector setup, proper swing technique, sensitivity and discrimination settings, ground balancing, target identification, interpreting target responses, pinpointing, proper target recovery, detecting etiquette, and responsible detecting practices.
As we encounter targets throughout the day, we'll use those real-world signals to help you understand what your detector is telling you and how to make better decisions in the field.
The goal is for you to finish the experience understanding not only how to operate a detector, but how to confidently begin detecting on your own.
This Is Real Metal Detecting
This is not a staged hunt with planted targets.
You'll be detecting permissible ground and searching for objects that have actually been lost or deposited over time.
Depending on the location, you may encounter coins, jewelry, relics, modern objects, trash, and plenty of targets that make you wonder why you dug them in the first place.
That's part of learning to metal detect.
Rather than simply showing you what a good target sounds like, we'll teach you how to evaluate the signals you actually encounter in the field—including the questionable ones.
The Standard 4-Hour Experience
The standard Private Guided Metal Detecting Experience includes approximately 4 hours of hands-on instruction and detecting.
We'll spend the beginning of the experience getting you comfortable with the detector, its basic controls, and proper detecting technique before transitioning into actual searching.
The majority of the experience will be spent detecting, with instruction continuing as different targets and situations are encountered.
Your experience includes private hands-on instruction, use of a modern metal detector and necessary detecting equipment, access to an appropriate permissible detecting location, and instruction tailored to your experience level.
Complete beginners are welcome.
Pricing
The standard 4-Hour Private Guided Metal Detecting Experience starts at $299.
1 Participant — $299
2 Participants — $399
Pricing is for the entire group, not per person, and includes approximately four hours of instruction, use of the necessary detecting equipment, and access to the selected detecting location.
For groups larger than two participants, please contact Heritage Gold Rush to discuss availability and custom pricing.
Additional charges may apply for extended sessions, significant additional travel, specialized requests, or other customized experiences. Any additional costs will be discussed and agreed upon before booking.
Equipment Is Included
You do not need to own a metal detector to participate.
Heritage Gold Rush will provide the equipment necessary for your experience, which may include a modern metal detector, handheld pinpointer, appropriate digging tools, finds pouch, and other detecting accessories.
If you're booking for two participants, appropriate detecting equipment will be provided for both participants.
Already own a detector? Bring it with you.
Learning how to properly set up and operate your own machine can be incorporated into the experience, and we'll help you better understand its settings and responses in real-world conditions.
If you decide you're ready for equipment of your own, metal detectors, pinpointers, digging tools, and other detecting accessories are also available for purchase separately from Heritage Gold Rush.
What You Should Bring
While the necessary detecting equipment is provided, participants should arrive prepared to spend several hours outdoors.
Bring appropriate clothing and footwear for the expected conditions, sunscreen, sunglasses, gloves, kneepads if desired, bug spray, food or snacks, plenty of drinking water, and any personal medications or necessities.
We'll provide additional recommendations before your experience based on the location, season, and expected conditions.
Location
There is no single predetermined location used for every lesson.
The detecting location will be selected based on legality and access, current conditions, weather, customer location, experience level, and the type of detecting experience planned.
All detecting will take place on property where metal detecting is permitted or where appropriate permission has been obtained.
The exact meeting location and additional details will be provided before your scheduled experience.
What You'll Learn
By the end of the experience, you should have a much stronger understanding of how to properly operate a modern metal detector, recognize and investigate target signals, pinpoint targets, recover objects responsibly, and approach a new detecting location with greater confidence.
You'll also gain practical field experience that can be difficult to replicate by simply watching videos or reading a detector manual.
Our goal is for you to leave with the knowledge and confidence to continue enjoying metal detecting on your own.
And hopefully you'll have a few interesting finds to take home with you.
Finds Are Never Guaranteed
Part of the excitement of metal detecting is that you never know what the next signal will be.
Heritage Gold Rush will make every reasonable effort to select an appropriate location with the potential to produce targets. However, metal detecting involves searching for objects that have been naturally lost or deposited over time.
No guarantee can be made regarding the number, type, age, or value of objects recovered during your experience.
The primary value of this experience is the instruction, equipment access, and real-world detecting knowledge you'll gain.
Contact Us Before Booking

We'll discuss your experience level, whether you already own a detector, what you'd like to learn, your general location, available dates, and any specific goals you have for the experience.
